Explicitly address the culture

People should gradually learn new skills, at least in small steps. This will enable them to learn more about using computers, including hardware, applications, and more advanced systems such as EPM practice-management software, finally leading up to EMR. Unless you're able to get the more resistant doctors involved, they could pose problems or delays.

Below find some important factors in change management which are adaptable for EMR system implementation:

Executive search firm Korn/Ferry International states that one of the biggest mistakes made is when execs join a company to implement changes, they fail to recognize the existing culture in the corporation or office. For example, a controlling manager enters a company which utilizes a more collaborative system, which leads to struggles and resistance.

Planning is Key

Ownership

Group leaders have ownership over different elements of the projects. These members have better cred with their subordinates, in comparison to the doctors. These core individuals should be first trained, then taught to train others in the practice.

Formally present your case

A need for change will be questioned by the status quo. You'll need a written statement of the vision, explained so that the how, who, what and why of the change to EMR is fully explained. Include proof that the move to a paperless system is a clearly better alternative. Otherwise, people won't use it.

Managing and having a positive influence on the staff is one of the most important elements in the implementation of an EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system.

Assess

Identify the top values, perceptions, beliefs and potential sources of resistance when assessing the cultural landscape. At times people are set in their ways; for example, the physician who is unable to check email, or the assistant who doesn't like to use a computer mouse.

Communication

Keep the dialogue channels open, encouraging feedback at every step. Keep a plan with sequence of actions. Make sure the staff has the necessary information and is involved in the implementation process.

In cases of EMR systems failing, often this has much to do with improper planning, inadequacies in implementation, or software deficiencies. The changes which will be occurring on the humanistic side will show this to be especially true. Planning the integration into a particular practice before doing the actual program install will be planning time well spent. This will have an ultimate effect on the bottom line.

Be clear in speaking to every individual

What's expected from everyone must be clearly understood. Confidence is good, if not to the point of being unrealistic. When problems do arise it's helpful to be able to counter the fears of the staff members.

Acknowledge the human aspect

There will be change and this could cause anxiety. Without 'buy-in' from employees, a new system will probably become a failure.

It is preferable to find ways to adapt into the pre-existing culture of the office, to assist with the staff's acceptance of the shift from paper-based record-keeping to EMR.

Proper planning and the ability to make minor adjustments is a great way to evade the necessity of completely pulling the plug on an EMR project. A great tool to make use of during a transitional phase of significance is the "change management" concept, undergoing change in a pre-planned and systematical way.

Begin at the top

It's particularly important for top staff members, including doctors and administrators, to get on board. Among the physicians, a 'champion' is required; that is, a doctor who is committed to realize this project through to completion, hopefully someone savvy with technology but not over-optimistic.

Every layer needs to become involved

Set up an employee committee which will develop proposals to be delivered to the physicians. These committee members should be the people who will be utilizing the EMR system, such as admin, business office, and assistants.

Prepare Your Staff Members For a New Electronic Medical Records System

Expect the unexpected

Problems will surely crop up. Events may cause a delay in the 'live' date of conversion onto the updated system. These delays will cause ripple effects which can be better managed with the right flexibility in planning by the committee.

Complex Medication Doses Prompt Increase in Safety Measures

Having one standardized set of guidelines also increases hospital efficiency. Caregivers no longer need multiple reference sources in order to calculate the correct dosage for a given situation.

The Advancing Dosing program contains a set of highly-customized dosing guidelines based on a number of criteria including the patient's age, weight, body surface area, renal function, and diagnosis. These guidelines are implemented at the time of ordering to ensure delivery of the correct medication dosage.

Advances in medicine have made it possible to more closely tailor prescription drugs to patients' individual needs. This is particularly true for those whose medical conditions are more complex. Neonatal prescriptions are based on a number of factors including age and weight. Others in need of more customized medications include the elderly and those whose illnesses are in advanced stages.

The guidelines reduce inaccuracies by coordinating dosing practices throughout the hospital. This helps to standardize the care patients receive and reduce any instances of human error.

Duke and other hospitals are already beginning to see a return on the time and money they have invested to implement these advanced dosing programs. Hospital patients are receiving less varied care and physicians are seeing improvements in treatment outcomes.

Healthcare providers hope the overall number of problems arising from medication inaccuracy will continue to decline as more and more hospitals implement strict dosing guideline programs.

Many medical institutions are taking extra precautions when ordering medication as a result. Duke University Hospital has adopted the Advance Dosing program of Horizon Expert Orders, from leading healthcare technologies provider McKesson.

Yet with these advances comes an increased risk: the more complex the dosing, the more possible chances for errors to be made from a drug's conception to its delivery to a patient. Studies show that the majority of dosing errors occur during the ordering stage of the process.

Various medical tourism agencies like RecoverDiscover are taking care of the needs of these international patients willing to come to India. Most of these medical treatments would require the patient to stay in India. These medical tourism agencies make arrangements for these patients for nice stays in reasonable hotels and arrange for sightseeing. It gives the opportunity to the patients to have a nice vacation after their treatment.

More and more people from the industrialized and developed countries of the world are seeking out for places where they can enjoy a vacation as well as have their medical treatment done at an affordable price.
Medical Tourists all round the globe are increasing day by day and India is their hotspot.
Most patients come from USA and UK for treatment because India offers most efficient treatment options at cheapest possible price along with the opportunities to spend a luxurious holiday. The doctors in India are as good as doctors from any other advanced countries and the language also does not pose a problem for them as most of them speak good English.

Sam D'Costa is well known professional in Online Marketing and web promotions.

India-Where Smart Treatment And Exotic Tourism Come Together

The major reason for the growth of medical tourism in India is the low cost of treatments.
Because of these low costs, medical tours to India provides an easy alternative for people to avail quality treatment in a timely manner, avoiding the long waiting list, that is a common problem in western countries. Medical Tourism in India allows people to undergo cost-effective medical procedures that they otherwise could not afford.

Why India?

Medical procedures that are very popular subjects for medical tourists in India are Ayurveda, Orthopaedics, Cardiothoracic, Cosmetic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery and the exotic spas for relaxation. The health care system in India has also developed a lot. In the 80's the Government run hospitals were the main health care providers in India. However, over the last decade Indian medical system has undergone sea of change with increasing participation from the corporate and the private sectors. Today, the private owned hospitals, nursing homes and clinics are the main stay of Indian health care system.

Medical Practitioners in India are well trained and many of them have enhanced their skills with training from medical schools in USA and Europe. Organizations that specialize in medical tourism only take the best of the best doctors. Indian clinics, hospitals and nursing homes have state-of-the-art infrastructure and technological sophistication to treat their patients. Indian pharmaceutical companies also meet the rigid requirements of various USs and Europe's Drug Administration Associations.

Pharmacists Know More Than Doctors

Whether or not your doctor wants to admit it, the pharmacist knows more about interactions of medications than the doctor. A huge component of pharmacy training includes chemistry and learning the interactions between classes of medication. Doctors are more likely to know about the drugs they most use in their specialty, but don't have the in depth knowledge across specialties.

One of the outcomes of most life-altering diagnoses is a treatment regimen that includes some type of medication. The doctor hands you a prescription and off to the pharmacy you go. Most people believe that all pharmacists do is count pills and slap a label on the bottle. They aren't aware of the training involved in becoming a pharmacist and that training could save your life.

It's important that you bring all your prescriptions to the same pharmacy. If you use several pharmacies the possibility of detecting a problem is greatly reduced because you're history isn't in their computer system. Your pharmacist may recommend alternatives to more expensive medications with approval from your doctor. They are more aware of generic drugs and in this day and age any money saved as long as it doesn't impact the outcome may be worth investigating. Pharmacists are also trained differently than doctors because they are trained in a more customer service environment, the pharmacy. They are a valuable resource and making your pharmacist part of your trust healthcare inner circle will serve you well.

Pharmacist as Educator

In today's healthcare environment your doctor has a short amount of time to spend with you. You may be so focused on questions about your health that you put aside any questions about the medication they prescribed. Your pharmacist has more time to explain the medication, the dosage, the possible side effects and interactions with over-the-counter medications. You may not think that cold medicine or aspirin could interfere with your prescriptions, but they can inhibit medication effectiveness or even have toxic effects on the body.

Pharmacist as Air Traffic Controller

When facing a life-altering health challenge you often see more than one doctor, especially if surgery is part of the treatment protocol. You may have prescriptions from each doctor. As a patient, you may be overwhelmed with the amount of medication your taking and it may not cross your mind to tell one doctor about the other medications you've been prescribed. Your pharmacist and thanks to modern technology will know about all your prescribed medications. The pharmacist will become alarmed if some of your medications are known to interact in a bad way. Computer programs in pharmacies also are able to cross reference interactions and display an alert if two of your medications may interact poorly. The pharmacist can literally save your life.

Other sinus pain treatment includes steroid nasal sprays, decongestants, sometimes oral steroids, leukotriene receptor antagonist and long duration broad spectrum antibiotics.

Nasal septal deviations often cause airway obstruction and can cause pain.

Pain with sinus is synonymous. The unwanted pain and distress pain include eye pain, headaches, neck pain. Sometimes even back pain due to fatigue. Sinusitis headaches cause a dull, deep, or severe pain in the front of your head and face. They are caused by an inflammation in the passages behind the cheeks, nose, and eyes. Bending down or leaning over usually makes the pain worse, as do cold and damp weather. These are headaches that have a "butterfly" distribution where the headache is centered across the forehead between the eyes and on the mid face. A sinus headache is often bad in the morning and improves by afternoon. Many times they are confused with migraines or tension headaches. The nerve that supplies the sinusitis and nasal lining becomes irritated or inflamed, thus causing the pain. If an isolated ethmoid sinus or frontal sinus or spenoid sinus becomes obstructed or infected, it can cause pain without causing nasal congestion or drainage.

At times when there is pain in the ear or temple region then it is said to be Temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction syndrome. Treatment in such cases can be from a dentist who with simple measures or with splints and bring relief to the pain. Pseudoephedrine and Advil/Tylenol help with the symptoms of pain and congestion. The occasional use of Afrin type sprays can relieve flare ups of congestion and pain. Saline nasal sprays, or saline rinses can really ease the pain to a great extent.

Much relief from sinus pain can be achieved by using acupressure. It gives quick relief from the pain. For a person suffering from sinus pain the first treatment is usually with steroid nasal sprays and the occasional use of decongestant sprays and oral decongestants. If a person is suffering from chronic pain then surgery is suggested.

The Verdict. Prescription drugs may instantly and specifically heal our symptoms at the moment, but scientists are always going back to the model of healing that nature always possessed. The best medicine is still the prototype posed by nature - for nature always knows best.

A Debate On Herbal Remedies And Prescription Drugs

Prescription Drugs over Herbal Remedies. People turned to chemically-synthesized drugs when traditional methods of healing were disposed, particularly when the practice of quack medicine was pronounced as ineffective and its herbal preparations were considered unsafe for use on humans. Incidentally, some herbal remedies died as age old methods of healing took a back seat in the mainstream.

As lifestyles changed over time, the medicine distributed to consumers were also adjusted to conform to market preferences in terms of disease control while new drugs were developed by pharmaceuticals in response to the health care requirements of the century. This development in the health care industry took its toll on the reputation of herbal remedies that are now regarded with speculation, particularly on their effectiveness in the treatment of diseases.

Traditional medicine has provided the essential remedies to humans for ages. Towards the turn of the century, modern medicine-in the form of synthesized drugs, has displaced medicine cabinets with pharmaceuticals. With regards to mainstream trust on prescription drugs nowadays, consumers are reverting to the holistic therapy provided by herbal products; since herbs are known to have little or no side effects as opposed to prescription medicine. To go the alternative route or stick to conventional treatments is a good question. But then, what really is the right type of medicine for us?

Herbal remedies have been around for many centuries even before the advent of conventional methods. To this day, scientists and herbalists alike are still overwhelmed by the discovery of endless healing potential available with herbs.

The FDA-mandated double blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials conducted to substantiate the effectiveness of narcotics in the treatment of various medical conditions have become the global standard of efficacy among healthcare professionals in the last 50 years or so. Moreover, the ability of narcotics to instantly remediate a malady only promoted the demand for these treatments among consumers. Once prescribed drugs were perceived to be ubiquitously safe for use, dependence occurred for its over-the-counter versions.

Herbal Remedies over Prescription Drugs. Herbal medicine is nature's way of letting the chi in our body flow in harmonious circles once again. In fact, nature has always complemented the biological needs of our system; as nature needs and nurtures nature.

Hippocrates Spinning in His Grave

Let's say you went to a mechanic and said your engine is making this loud ominous knocking noise. It's so loud that you're sure the engine is sustaining additional damage with every day that you drive the car. The mechanic looks at the engine and after a brief time gives you the disposition. He hands you a pair of ear plugs and advises that you should wear them each time you drive the car. His position is that you won't be bothered by the noise any longer because you won't hear it! Did he fix the problem? Will the engine surely fail - eventually? Would you seriously take his advice and drive off, ear plugs in place and a smile on your face? Then why do you take similar advice from your physician when he or she hands you a pill?

The rationalists took a different approach. The treated only the symptoms. They looked at the symptoms as the disease itself. They used drugs to eliminate the symptoms and thus the patient was "cured". They also looked at groups. They found the common denominator in groups suffering from a particular disease. If all of "these" people who suffered from a particular disease also had this particular symptom, then that symptom was addressed and a drug that would eliminate that symptom would be the goal.

If you can cure your type 2 diabetes in six months without drugs and their side effects and the drug du jour cause harm, shouldn't your physician be prescribing diet and exercise? If they want to live up to the Hippocratic Oath they should. And shouldn't insurance companies be paying for that therapy?

Now don't be mistaken to think the empiricists were nothing more than voodoo doctors. They understood the science and substructures of the body to every degree as well as the rationalists. Perhaps even more so, since allopathic medicine was borne from within homeopathic medicine. What would catapult the rationalists would be a combination of an event and greed in concert with better organizational skills - but not a better mouse trap. Quite the contrary. I'm also not suggesting that the empiricists had it all worked out and just got railroaded either. Each group had its faults. What I am suggesting is that had greed not taken a front seat and these two groups worked together, we would have a better medical system and a healthier population as a result. More emphasis would have been placed on nutrition and physical exercise and less on pills and potions.

They observed the patient, learned about the patient. Their habits, diet, activities, stresses, sleep, family, etc., all was taken into account. They looked at each person as just that, a person. Not one of a larger group. They then applied remedies that would balance the person. Those could be herbs, changes in diet, sleep, stress, etc. If the treatment was working the symptoms would begin to subside, giving sign that the treatment was on the right track. In short they looked for the root cause and eliminated it giving the body the opportunity to heal itself.

Empiricists looked at symptoms as a sign that the body was overwhelmed by toxins or out of kilter with its natural healthy predisposition. They didn't "treat" the symptoms. They used the symptoms as a guide as to whether or not the treatment was working. They believed that the symptoms were the body's natural response, and a necessary response. To treat the symptoms alone eliminates the body's cry for help.

We see the rationalists approach today in modern medicine. Drugs are prescribed that solely address symptoms. Those exclusively lower blood pressure and cholesterol or increase bone mineral uptake to reduce osteoporosis without identifying and treating the root of the problem in the first place. The problem with these and many drugs like them is they carry side effects. And with some, the side effects are just marginally less then the negative effects of the diseases they treat. Practitioners and pharmaceutical companies will argue that the side effects are overstated or less life threatening than the actual disease itself - and in some instances this is true. But in most cases its not.

Now its not all allopathic medicine's fault. You can't blame them for capitalizing on our unwillingness to wait for change. We as individuals know that our illnesses and their respective symptoms took years to develop. We all know that poor lifestyle habits cause the majority of diseases. Yet we want to walk into our physician and demand to be fixed now! "Give me a pill and let me get back to living this poor life style" is what we demand through our impatience. Take type 2 diabetes for instance. It's at epidemic proportions and so many companies are capitalizing on American people. Is it in their interest that you be cured? Type 2 diabetes can be completely reversed in 90% of those who suffer from it with simple modifications to diet and exercise and the other 10%, with the addition of some interventive hormone replacement therapies. But the nation will opt for a pill and a glucometer that will allow them to live broken, eat horrible diets and avoid exercise. These companies are banking on it. They want to supply us with our pills, glucometer, glucose strips and any other thing that the Diabetic will need for the reaming 50 or 60 years of their lives.

Ask yourself, what's wrong with a medical community that doesn't want to suggest a cure but rather make you nothing less than a junkie? Addicted and dependant on a drug. And here's the best part to come full circle to my initial statement that doctors shouldn't be allowed to take the Hippocratic Oath. Those medicines they prescribe. You pick the medication, diabetes, osteoporosis, cholesterol or blood pressure - some of the more popular ones - all have side effects that can be categorized as "doing harm".

So isn't' this in essence "doing harm"? If the "treatment" progresses the disease faster is it a cure? The brief suppression of the symptoms is a way to appease the patient. To enlist their trust in the magic of allopathic medicine.

A better alternative would be to look for a true cure. To look for the true source of the disease. The death of dopamine neurons in the brain is no less a symptom of the disease than is tremor. Learning why they die and looking at individuals as just that - individuals - to see what habits and traits they possess that predisposes them to these symptoms would be the answer. The problem is that this doesn't fit our current medical movement. Finding a common symptom in large groups and treating that symptom is the home run the big pharmaceutical companies are looking for every day. How do you patent and sell life style changes, modifications in sleep or nutrition? Pharmaceutical drugs, for the most part, cure nothing. They allow us to live broken. Now you may say "what's wrong with that if the symptoms are gone and I can move on?". You wouldn't treat you car that way, is what I would reply.

Super Human Radio
Live Stronger. Live Longer.

And like food, thought is powerful medicine as well.

Homeopaths were considered empiricists and allopaths, rationalists. The difference is profound, and plays a role in how we ended up here in the debacle of national widespread illness and poor health.

I don't pretend to answer all of the questions here - only to raise them. My hope is that this will give you some food for thought.

Here's an example to substantiate my position. Lets look at a disease like Parkinson's Disease. We know people suffering with the disease have cretin similarities, blank facial expressions, depressive disorder, motor coordination issues and neuro-muscular degeneration. As the disease progresses untreated, deterioration in neuro-muscular factors causes freezing and severe tremor. The rationalists look at the symptoms and look for a common denominator in a group of individuals suffering with the disease. One of the commonalities is a degeneration of the dopamine transporter neurons in the Substantia Nigra - an area of the brain responsible for the initial motor commands that allow us to move our bodies.

Doctors today should not be allowed to take the Hippocratic Oath. Hippocrates dictated - "First do no harm" and "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food". Hardly the path of allopathic medicine today.

The rationalists decide that treating the patient with an external source of dopamine, in pill form to replace the dopamine the brain is no longer making, is the answer. Initially the symptoms do subside. The patient can move with greater fluidity. Some of the depression lifts and all looks hopeful. As time passes the dose of dopamine must be increased as more of the neurons in the Substantia Nigra die off. But this produces a vicious cycle as the higher doses of dopamine seems to cause the disease to progress faster till the highest doses have no affect what so ever. In fact, most practitioners now agree that it's the prescribed dopamine that advances the disease faster.

And more importantly, these drugs that carry negative side effects are doing harm. Regardless of the degree of harm, they are counter to the first edict of the Hippocratic Oath - "First do no harm".

Arrogant Surgeons

It's been said that surgeons have a great ego and that they look all arrogant and feel superior.

I have been a surgeon for over 22 years, and frankly, I have saved many many lives, and I feel proud for what I have accomplished so far. Of course, this could have not been done without the help of hundreds of nurses and other doctors who assisted me and provided care to my patients as well. Maybe, and just maybe, this feeling of pride and self confidence is what makes us look...arrogant.

Symptoms such as dark, tarry stools, or vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds could mean a bleeding ulcer. Unusual bleeding or bruising could mean the drugs are interfering with clotting. If you have one of these problems, call your doctor right away.

These are some of the most common drugs used to combat the pain of arthritis, but there are many others used for all forms of arthritis and its related conditions. Any drug, for any condition, carries the risk of side effects. Before beginning any medication, read the drug's package insert. Ask your doctor if there are side effects you should watch for and what to do if you experience them. And, pay attention to what your body is telling you. If you're taking a medication, even one you've taken for a while, and you notice a problem, call your doctor.

Corticosteroids

Though corticosteroids are potent anti-imflammatories, they also have the potential to do great harm. They have been shown to cause brittle bones, cataracts and elevated blood sugar, particularly if they are taken in high doses or for long periods of time. If you start to notice symptoms of diabetes (e.g. increased thirst, frequent urination and/or blurred vision), or neurological problems (e.g. hallucinations or rapid and wide mood swings), call your doctor as soon as possible.

Sometimes, the bad exceeds the good and side effects can signal something life-threatening. Here are some side effects of the most commonly used arthritis medications that require immediate attention:

Bruce C. Bailey, Ph.D.

Some side effects will disappear on their own as your body adjusts to the drug. For others, you can alleviate side effects by taking medications with food, supplementing nutrients the drug can affect, or using other medications to ease the first drug's effects (e.g. acetaminophen to ease injection pain, an artificial saliva product to ease dry mouth, or an antacid to ease stomach upset). For still others, you may have to learn to live with the side effects, especially if the benefits of taking the drug outweigh the consequences.

Whoever coined that phrase originally could have been referring to arthritis medications. While medications can make physical movement easier and less painful, they can also do some things you'd rather they didn't. Upset stomach, dry mouth, drowsiness, and increased risk of infection are some of the more benign of these side effects, but there are others that are decidedly worse.

DMARDs (Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs)

DMARDs control arthritis by suppressing the immune system. Because this can also make it more difficult to fight infection, it's important that you call your doctor right away if you have symptoms of infection, including a fever, cough, hoarseness or sore throat. You should also consult with your doctor before getting any vaccinations while you are taking these drugs.

As another familiar saying cautions us, "Its better to be safe than sorry."

Arthritis Medication and Side Effects

NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)

Rapid or irregular pulse, hives on the face or mouth, wheezing, or tightness in the chest may indicate an allergic reaction to the drug. Stop taking the NSAID and get medical attention immediately.

"You have to take the good with the bad."

If these attempts fail to stop snoring habit, one must consult a doctor to get an effective snoring remedy.

* Over weight or obesity- It has been observed that obese people snore much. Sometimes the wearing sound of nasal snoring generates by the flapping of soft palate. When tongue meets with the upper throat and touches the roof of the mouth which is called soft palate; the corpulent tissues narrow the air passage which in turn causes the vibration or nasal snoring.

Nasal snoring is one of the most frustrating and irksome problems that refrain most of us directly or indirectly from having a peaceful sleep. Often professional snoring remedies like medication, surgery and other anti nasal snoring measures doesn't work much; where as a few easy snoring remedies can help to stop snoring more effectively. Before thinking on how to stop snoring one must find out the actual reason behind this bothersome nasal sound. Some plausible and most common reasons are listed below:

Snoring - An Anatomical Disorder

A proper healthy food habit can also keep the annoying nasal snoring away from once bedroom.

Marinating an alert sleeping posture can keep the passage way clear and in turn can help to stop snoring. One should always try to sleep on side rather than on the back. This can be done by using tennis ball into the sock to keep from rolling over.

* Cold, Sinusitis and other infections can block the respiratory tract and the resultant stuffy nose can generate nasal sound.

A regular practice of Yoga, aerobics, walking or other sort of physical exercise can be a great help to stop snoring by maintaining proper respiratory muscle tone and losing excess plump as well.

Now evaluating the cause of snoring one can easily find the way to stop snoring out by self contemplation. Such as,

* Blockage of air passage- Factors affecting air passage are mostly the anatomical disorder, post operative injury, loosening of adjacent respiratory muscles and tissues due to aging, other hormonal factors or chronic dust and smoke allergy etc. which cause obstacles at the upper respiratory tract generating nasal snoring.

Restless Med Syndrome

So now, if I take the medication advertised, I will likely experience the side effects, and would probably have rather just suffered from the initial condition to begin with. If I take the medication and suffer the side effects, do I then have to take a variety of other medications to treat the side effects? I know one thing for sure. The big pharmaceutical companies are hoping for the latter. I simply want that second date, thank you IBS. My final question is, why am I the one being advertised to in regards to medication in the first place? I am simply a guy trying to watch my favorite reality show when a commercial kicks in asking me how many times I run to the bathroom and how many hours of sleep I get (questions which incidentally cause me anxiety, another condition I am being treated for with a series of medications). I mean, am I the most qualified to decide if my legs are restless, my bowel irritable, or my erection dysfunctional (okay, maybe that last one I am the most qualified). But isn't this why I go to my doctor?

Finally, which conditions are literally created by clever marketing executives at the pharmaceutical companies, and do not actually exist, but are designed not only to make us believe that a) they are indeed real and possibly life threatening, b) it is likely that you are suffering from it right now, as you read this article, and c) we should be funneling down a variety of expensive pills to treat said symptom(s)? These questions are great cause for concern, both for our pocketbooks as well as our livers. However, I will agree with the pharmaceutical companies on one thing: when I am on a date at a nice Italian Restaurant, and I suddenly am overcome with a terrible case of irritable bowel syndrome, this is usually followed by an equally terrible case of erectile dysfunction as well. But the reality is, this is usually because my date asks to be dropped off early, and a potential romantic rendezvous is awkwardly cut short. Yet, once I am home and have relieved myself, all systems are a go, and I feel healthy, youthful, and completely alone with nothing but fourteen bottles of pills and a Mucinex commercial telling me not to blow my nose, but to take a pill that will eradicate the mucus all together. If only there was a pill for a second date. If you have chosen to believe, consciously or subconsciously, in any or all of the conditions we hear about in commercials or read about in magazine advertisements, and therefore you medicate yourself accordingly, I truly hope that you catch the thirty seconds or so of potential side effects at the end of these commercials. "This medication may cause dry mouth, soreness, diarrhea, irritability, insomnia, and possibly death". Are you kidding me?

The one thing these commercials are successful in having me believe is that I am in fact, dying. There are many different ways to look at life. Rabbis and Priests and Imams and Tom Cruise all have advice on how to look at life. Me, I am a pessimist, and/or Jewish. My belief is that, ever since the day we are all born, we are on the path to dying, or have begun to die. For some, death may be a slow process, and this person shall live a nice, long, healthy one-hundred years or so. Others are not so fortunate. However, the one thing I have vowed not to do is live my life as though I am dying, even though science and my diminishing brain cells tell me otherwise. In simple terms, I want to live as though I am living.

Let me first say that I believe the advancements in medical science have produced life-saving and/or life-altering medications that have enhanced the lives of most, if not all of us, and we should continue to fund scientific research and studies in the field of medical science. If prescribed by your doctor and taken appropriately, many of us have found various medications to help us get through the day, overcome ailments, and possibly eradicate a disease one may be suffering from. However, when economics become interwoven with health and wellness, my legs become, well, extremely restless. Let's stop and think about Restless Leg Syndrome. Does such a syndrome even exist? Does it exist if a little yellow cartoon character on TV tells me so? Is it a serious condition if I put Restless Leg Syndrome in all caps? And, if it is a real syndrome, can it not simply be cured by say, I don't know, getting off the damn couch and taking a, ready for this... walk? It is a fact that the pharmaceutical industry is a multi-billion dollar economic system in the United States, and the lobbyists that come with it are some of the most powerful in our country, second to maybe the one thing we are terribly addicted to: oil.

Now, I am no expert in economics, but I am certain the pharmaceutical companies would like us to also be addicted to their pharmaceuticals. If we could Lexipro or Viagra in our cars instead of oil, than all the better. And this is where a major problem in our society lies. Where is the line between the medications we need, and the medications we are being sold on and really can live without, that only serve to enable Pfizer and Merck to line their pockets? We need to figure this out, lest I get stressed and need another prescription for Xanax. Just turn on the TV, or check your spam folder in your email inbox, or flip through any magazine on the newsstand, and you will be told through various advertisements that you not only are "suffering" from restless leg syndrome, but a variety of allergies, toe-nail fungus, depression, repression, obsession, A.D.D., A.D. H.D., overactive bladder, irritable bowel syndrome, inflamed prostate, and erectile dysfunction, just to name a few. My questions, and maybe yours as well, are as follows: Which conditions are real and need to be treated with medication? Which conditions are real and do not require medication, but can be cured by leaving your house, exercising, walking in the park, or getting a girlfriend (erectile dysfunction, or are you just single)?

It makes little sense to me as to why the pharmaceutical companies skip the doctor and advertise directly to the consumer as though I have completed medical school, an externship, residency at Cedar Sinai Hospital, and have been practicing medicine for years. Hell, I'm not even a production assistant on Grey's Anatomy, though I do know where to score Marijuana, which, incidentally, has little side effects except for paranoia and hours of TV watching, and again, likely no date. In conclusion, thinking about all of this has reminded me yet again what I already know: we are all dying. However, why can't Pfizer and Watson and Merck just let me live? I urge everyone to think twice and consult your doctor before taking anything, because side effects lead to more medication, which leads to more side effects and therefore more medication, and so on and so forth, like the snake eating its tail. You know what, thinking about all of this has given me a headache. I will have to end this now, take a couple Tylenol, drop a Mucinex to stop the sniffles, and pop a Viagra just in case I am able to score that second date.

When two of the children who attend my Sunday School class told me they had received the first in a series of three Gardasil vaccinations, I was suspect. When I did the research, I was angry.

REMEMBER: NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO MAKE YOU SACRIFICE YOUR CHILD ON THE ALTAR OF BIG PHARMA.

FACT: According to an FDA report on Gardasil, the Human Papilloma virus usually is a transient infection and the body eradicates it on its own. When it continues untreated, it may cause cervical cancer.

FACT: "Research is now being done on using Gardasil in older women and in males."
[MALES? A drug supposedly to stop cervical cancer???]

FACT: According to Merck, if administered to those who already have the virus, it "may increase the risk, by 44.6%, of developing high-grade precancerous lesions in the cervice." p. 10, HiFi DNA report, March 7, 2007. [Do they test those who receive the vaccination? No.]

Victoria Day is an accomplished artist and writer residing in Southern Arizona. She is the wife of a Southern Baptist minister and publishes "Heart of Mohave Magazine."

The above information is based on NCI's SEER Cancer Statistics Review.

THE GARDASIL HPV VIRUS VACCINE

FACT: Gardasil does not prevent cervical cancer. It prevents only four of the 100 plus Human Papalloma viruses that may cause cervical cancer. This virus is transmitted primarily through sexual activity. [So why is it administered to nine year olds?]

There is so much more that we will be happy to e-mail anyone concerned, but for now, we leave you with the last FACT: "In 2006, the company's sales were $235,000,000." - John Carreyrou, Wall Street Journal. If made mandatory, estimates go as high as four billion.

FACT: " Statistics in the United States of women under 20 who develop cervical cancer is 0.0% and only 0.1% worldwide. According to The American Cancer Society, "Cervical cancer tends to occur in midlife. Most cases are found in women younger than 50. It rarely develops in women younger than 20. Many older women do not realize that the risk of developing cervical cancer is still present as they age. Almost 20% of women with cervical cancer are diagnosed when they are over 65." On average, about 3,870 women will die of cervical cancer in 2008 and again, most of those in midlife. [So why are we vaccinating children?]

Just Say "No"

FACT: Merck, the manufacturer of Gardasil has stated that the vaccine is effective for five years but is uncertain of prolonged protection. [Let's do the math. Nine years old protected for five years?]

An FDA news release from March 31, 2003 acknowledges that "most infections (by HPV) are short-lived and not associated with cervical cancer."

So before you open that box of non-drowsy decongestants or reach for the nasal spray on your nightstand, give magnetic therapy a try. If its fast acting with no side effects, and never needs a refill, what do you have to lose?

Acute sinusitis occurs when the mucosa is irritated and inflamed. The small openings from the nose to the sinus cavities become congested (or even completely blocked), causing the facial pain and pressure most of us have experienced at some point in time. Mucus production is often increased as well, adding to the pressure, and causing that annoying runny nose symptom [3].

Did you know that every year, more than 35 million Americans suffer from sinusitis? Its one of the leading chronic diseases in the United States [1]. And its no wonder, as bacteria, viruses, cigarette smoke, and allergens like pollen, mold, dust mite feces and pet dander are all common causes of this condition [2]. Unless you live in a bubble, theres really no escaping these tiny antagonists.

Until recently, though, we didnt have much research to back these findings (other than our own records). But, while sifting through online abstracts from MRI research, I happened to stumble upon this:

2002 - An Ohio State University study compared differences in magnetic field susceptibility at tissue interfaces in the human head. "Considerable magnetic field inhomogeneities were observed in the inferior frontal lobes and inferior temporal lobes, particularly near the sphenoid sinus and the temporal bones."

What Therion products work best to help relieve sinusitis?

Based on our own research and experiences with clients and health practitioners over the years, weve observed that sinus congestion is dramatically improved or completely relieved with the application of magnetic therapy. In fact, taking about 20-30 minutes on average, its one of the conditions that biomagnetics alleviates quickest.

Refining our search, we were able to uncover other MRI studies confirming this finding. Heres a brief timeline of what was found:

Magnetic therapy is proven to be effective in reducing inflammation, a primary symptom of sinusitis. By reducing inflammation of the mucosa, mucous blockages can be drained and the sinus cavities reopened. This, allows you to breathe freely again, while eliminating the facial pain caused by pressure build-up.

1983 -- PubMed: Magnetic bones in human sinuses.

1986 -- PubMed: High-field magnetic resonance imaging of paranasal sinus inflammatory disease.

1990 -- PubMed: Effect of field strength on susceptibility artifacts in magnetic resonance imaging.

1995 -- PubMed: Measurements of magnetic field variations in the human brain using a 3D-FT multiple gradient echo technique.

2002 -- PubMed: Three-dimensional numerical simulations of susceptibility-induced magnetic field inhomogeneities in the human head.

Dating back to 1983, a study was conducted to assess the influence of magnetic fields on the physiology and behavior of biological organisms, and to search for possible magnetic sources within the organisms themselves.

1986 - "Magnetic Resonance Imaging [using a 1.5 Tesla (15,000 Gauss) magnet and a spin echo technique] has revealed a remarkably intense signal from abnormal tissue in the human paranasal sinuses. Inflammatory disease in the maxillary, sphenoid, ethmoid, and frontal sinuses has been detected and demonstrated with greater clarity than any other available technique."

The sinuses are actually four pairs of hollow spaces in the bones of the face. Connected to the nose, air is allowed to flow in and out of these spaces. To help warm and filter the air, each sinus is lined with a mucous-producing membrane, called the mucosa [3].

These four independent studies all relate to the notion that human sinuses are magnetically sensitive. When compared to other regions of the head, more intense magnetic field readings are seen, and conditions of inflammation are more easily observed.

Many people turn to preventive methods like HEPA air filters, or frequent cleaning of carpets and bed sheets to reduce household allergens [4]. Decongestants, saline nasal sprays, and vaporizers are commonly used to treat the symptoms--but as you and I know, they take time to work.

This is where those studies come in. Theres an interesting, but little known fact about the sinuses: they are magnetically sensitive.

Quiet Discoveries Lead to Fast Sinus Relief

See you soon at www.therionresearch.com

When applied properly, magnetic therapy products can relieve sinus congestion in as little as 15 minutes. That's faster than any decongestant or vaporizer, lasts longer than most nasal sprays, and is completely free of any side effects (like dryness or burning). Not to mention, you won't need to worry about buying refills or possible addiction to certain nasal decongestants.

The Eye & Sinus Mask is designed specifically for relief of your sinus congestion. Inside it has 28 neodymium magnets covering areas around your eyes, forehead and upper cheeks. (The magnetic field has an effective penetration depth up to 2.5 inches.) You can expect sinus and headache relief within 15-25 minutes of wearing it.

What did we find? Well, let's just say if you've got a stuffy nose you should try magnets before sniffling through that bottle of nasal spray!

1990 - A study conducted at the UCLA School of Medicine tested conditions affected by MRI field strength. Results illustrated that "magnetic susceptibility artifacts are prevalent on the boundary of air-containing paranasal sinuses".

For even faster relief plus more restful sleep, Therion 's magnetic dual contour pillow is the perfect choice. The visco elastic (memory) foam is soft and comfortable, but also supportive. You'll actually feel it adjusting and conforming to the shape of your head and neck. It's ideal to use as a regular sleeping pillow, as the magnetic field reaches the pineal gland. This is a magnetically sensitive area in the brain that functions to induce sleep by secreting melatonin. (See the article "Having Trouble Sleeping" found in the Learning Center at www.therionresearch.com.

Its amazing what you can find when you start your search a little outside the bulls eye. While clicking through Magnetic Resonance Imaging research online, my colleagues and I found some intriguing scientific studies completely by accident!

So how does this lead to sinusitis relief?

The same magnetic material was also found in bees, homing pigeons, dolphins and other organisms--including humans. More specifically, the researchers found that "the bones of the sphenoid/ethmoid sinus complex of humans are magnetic and contain deposits of ferric iron". (The sphenoid/ethmoid sinuses are located between the eyes and progress inward towards the back of the head [3].)

It was found that a wide range of life forms could detect and orient to magnetic fields. (Like having a built-in compass.) Results showed magnetic orientation by bacteria was due to the presence of particles of magnetite (ferric/ferrous oxide) within the organisms.

I thought it was another crackpot cure, but eventually I decided to try it. She had told me that pre-ground flaxseed didn't work because flax seed starts to oxidize as soon as you grind it and that whole flax seeds are no good either, because they cannot be digested properly. After years of IBS, in about two weeks it just went away. I cannot believe that I now have perfectly normal, regular bowel movements.

Daniel believes that his symptoms are related to his emotions and stress: I thought that when I was stuck on the toilet, experiencing the most severe cramps, thinking I was about to pass out from the pain, feeling like I was about to throw up, I was the only one. I'm still trying to work it out but I believe it has a lot to do with my psychological state. I say this because although I don't get too stressed out at any one moment, I do have general worries about money and life. I tend to find when I'm not worrying about these things I don't get the pain as much, if at all.

Flaxseed

It's easier said than done of course, I can't just stop worrying about money or my future, but being aware of these things seems to help - being optimistic and knowing that everything is only temporary. I have been taking Colpermin (peppermint capsules) as a preventative which often helps and for a while I took painkillers which I think helped.

Stress and IBS

Some nutritionists believe that IBS sufferers intestines react differently to soluble and insoluble fiber, and this has been Stus experience: After trying all kinds of drugs and healthy eating, my pains were still there. I found by accident that it wasn't so much what I ate but whether I ate it on a full stomach or not. My failsafe is pasta on an empty stomach, I get no reaction - it is soluble fibre that settles the colon apparently. I quickly searched on the internet for recipes high in soluble fibre and I have improved.

If you have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), you will know how difficult it is to treat. Doctors can be dismissive of IBS symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation and bloating, and when treatment is offered it may only help for a short while before the distressing symptoms return.

Most significantly though I am on no medication and this puts me in control of the IBS, not the other way around. I think this is important as stress certainly can trigger the symptoms off. I don't avoid insoluble fibre as it is essential for the body, but I recommend that you eat it on a full stomach.

Pam, who struggles with constipation, has developed a combination of things which work for her: I drink Metamucil (psyllium fibre) every day and try to relax, pray or meditate, even do a little yoga. The more I make myself relax and take time to de-stress the better I can manage my problem. I know time for yourself is very hard to come by sometimes but I have to if I'm going to manage this. I try to drink at least three bottles of water a day. This is also hard sometimes but I have to take care of me the best I can. I also take a mild anti-depressant. This has helped a bunch in my stress department and in turn has helped my IBS.

Laura describes how a close examination of her diet helped her IBS: I was placed on every kind of medication, and sometimes they worked in the short term, sometimes they didn't work at all. The doctor finally suggested trying to alter my diet in cycles, and we discovered that eating meat was my problem. I became a vegetarian and no longer have constant problems. Sometimes I even go years without any pain at all. It's worth all the effort you put into it when you finally feel better.

Fiber, water and yoga

Watching your diet is sometimes not enough to completely control the symptoms, and natural or herbal supplements can help, as Marion discovered: After about six months of a horrendously restrictive diet (ultra low-fat vegan with no raw veggies or fruit except banana) and a lot of Metamucil, I managed to get it sort of under control. But if I deviated from the diet, the chronic diarrhea would come back. Someone I met told me that she had helped her IBS by taking a tablespoon of freshly ground flaxseed with a glass of water or juice every morning.

All the self-help tips in this article have come from IBS sufferers who have found a way to control their irritable bowels. Before trying any form of self-help, please make sure that you have your doctors approval, and do check that anything you try will not interfere with any medication you are taking.

Digestive enzymes and probiotics

Calcium tablets

If you suffer from constipation rather than diarrhea, you could try magnesium supplements instead, as these can have a slight laxative effect.

Sufferers often find that they have to deal with the symptoms themselves, through self-help methods and supplements, rather than by using conventional medicines. However, this does not mean that there is no hope of improvement. By sharing their experiences, sufferers can learn a lot about what really helps to ease IBS.

Looking at your diet

Linda, who suffers from severe diarrhea, says: What has helped me for more than two years is calcium carbonate, an over-the-counter supplement. I take three tablets a day, one at each meal. The most success has come from using any formula of calcium supplement that is like Caltrate 600 Plus with vitamin D and minerals. The only side effect is at the beginning of taking the calcium you may have some gas or indigestion, but this usually goes away after taking a regular dose for a few days.

Soluble versus insoluble fiber

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Simple Self-Help Tips

Kim, who also suffers from bad diarrhea, says: I tried taking digestive enzymes with acidophilus and found significant relief within three days. I am not afraid to eat now, but find that I still cannot eat very much refined sugar or high fibre vegetables. I have also added a cup or two per day of peppermint and chamomile tea. When I do have an episode it occurs late in the day and by the next morning I am feeling back to normal.

In the case of Cerebral Palsy there is no one cause of this severe condition. There are many things that may increase the risk of this condition but will not cause cerebral palsy all the time. In the majority of cases and average of seventy percent, it results from brain injury before the child is even born this is known as congenital cerebral palsy this would be present from birth but may take months even years to diagnose depending on how severe it illness is. There is also a chance of acquired cerebral palsy which could happen through there being a case of meningitis or brain injuries.

Barry Hynes

Causes and Types of Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is broken down into three main types: Ataxic cp, Athetoid cp, Spastic cp.

Along with the three types of cp some children will have a combination of them all.

Ataxic CP - this is the rarest of the three and occurs when the cerebellum has been damaged this part of the brain controls balance. It will be difficult fop the child to coordinate their movements and they will have problems below with balancing.

Below are some factors that can increase the chances of cerebral palsy. None of the above will definitely lead to cerebral palsy. Before birth: Prematurely, long difficult labor, lack of oxygen to the child, Bacterial infection of the mother during birth, low birth weight, severe jaundice, viral, diseases in early pregnancy, attack of the childs central nervous system, lack of oxygen / nutrients from the placenta to the fetus and incompatible blood types between the mother and child. After birth: Viral encephalitis, brain tumors, head injuries and Meningitis

Spastic CP - This type of CP is the most common of the three it occurs when there has been damage to the cortex, which is the part of the brain controlling thought movement and sensation. Causes mainly tightness of the muscles, in both the arms and legs of the inflicted. The arms will tend to be flat against the side of the body with the hands bent up against the forearm. Depending on the damage the legs will either be greatly effected or only mildly it may be only slightly obvious that there is a problem when the child walks or in worse cases both legs are affected and they will be crossed with the toes pointing. If the muscles are not exercised often enough this can cause the child to become wheelchair bound.

Gout Medicine That Works - 3 Medicinal Remedies to Reduce Pain

But there is a downside to using corticosteroids as your gout medicine. You can't take it daily or during repeat flare-ups, because frequently using this medication will damage the joint and weaken the surrounding bone cartilage.

Many natural gout remedies exist but one of the first things most people seek for relief is gout medicine. Prescribed gout medications are usually the main solution used when people are afflicted with any ailment and gout sufferers are no different. Many of these medications focus on reducing the high uric acidity level in the bloodstream.

Any gout medicine you take, like most other kinds of medications, will have its pros and cons. Therefore, you should carefully consider your choices. Getting help from both medical professionals and other gout patients with resources for relief can give you the edge in getting rid of your gout flare-ups.

If NSAIDs aren't effective for you, then turning to corticosteroids are the next doctor recommendation. Like NSAIDs, these also give instant relief to gout victims. They are injected directly into the inflamed joint to mainly target that area.

The two most common gout medicines are corticosteroids and NSAIDs. These help reduce inflammation in the affected joints. NSAIDs are taken by mouth in high dosages. They also aid in prohibiting the spread of prostaglandin, a substance that plays its part in causing you severe pain during a gout flare-up.

When steroids are taken in from the outside either by mouth, intramuscularly or intravenously, they are referred to as exogenous steroids. Taking glucocorticoids orally or intravenously can reduce the ability of the persons own adrenal glands to continue to manufacture glucocorticoids.

Without the ability to increase steroid production in the face of stressors such as injury, infection, and surgery, a patient can go into shock.

Other side-effects include:

The chances of the adrenal glands being suppressed increase as the dose of outside steroid exceeds the average daily equivalent output of the adrenal glands which is about 5.0-7.5 mg prednisone, therapy continues for more than a few weeks or months, doses are given late in the day or in split doses, or long-acting corticosteroid preparations are used.

Prednizone- the correct spelling is prednisone- is a commonly used oral glucocorticoid medicine.

Prednizone Side Effects - Should I Be Worried if I Take this Drug?

Increased risk of bacterial or opportunistic infections such as fungi, tuberculosis, pneumocystis carinii

Elevated blood sugar

Fat distribution changes leading to moon face, buffalo hump

Elevated blood lipids

Aggravation of hypertension

Electrolyte abnormalities such as low blood potassium

Fluid retention leading to edema

Easy bruisibility

Increased body hair

Increased sweating

Purple stretch marks

Impaired wound healing

Glaucoma

Cataracts

Muscle wasting

Stomach ulcers

Pancreatitis

Accelerated hardening of the arteries

Osteonecrosis (bone death)

Psychiatric disturbance

Insomnia

Bowel perforation

Masking of infection

Patients who require high doses of prednisone (more than 20 mgs a day) for extended periods of time often will develop side-effects.

The use of prednisone for different diseases such as arthritis needs to be assessed with the potential benefits vs. the risks. These benefits and risks need to be discussed with your rheumatologist.

Glucocorticoids manufactured by the body are referred to as endogenous steroids- meaning a persons own body makes these steroids.

Taking steroids on an alternate day (every other day) schedule lessens the chance of adrenal insufficiency but does not do away with it altogether.

Here is a brief explanation of their cycle:

Do you know what is involved in the head lice life cycle? To get rid of these pests you need to know a little bit more about them, such as how they actually live and breed.

First you need to do some research on head lice just so that you get familiar with the methods of getting rid of them. Your local pharmacy also has over the counter products which are available for ending the head lice life cycle, but many people now are claiming that the lice are becoming immune to those products. If you find this is the case then your family doctor could suggest something stronger that will help you and your family out. Also there is nothing wrong to seek outside help when it comes to having to deal with the head lice life cycle.

Now that you have medication in hand, there are still plenty of other things that need taken care of. There is a lot of cleaning and storing of certain items in your home that you must do. Washing and drying (with heat) the pillowcases, sheets, nightclothes, towels and stuffed animals may possibly eliminate lice and eggs that might otherwise reinfest a family member. Combs, brushes, hats and other hair accessories in contact with an infested person should be washed in hot water each day to dislodge any lice and nits. And in order to take stop the entire head lice life cycle, you must look through the hair on a daily basis to remove any and all eggs that you find. And just remember that because the way the head lice life cycle works, you may find that this process in itself will take about two or three weeks before you stop finding eggs.

1. Egg is laid on hair shaft. Egg is called a 'nit'.
2. Louse emerges after 6-7 days.
3. First moult 2 days after hatching.
4. Second moult 5 days after hatching.
5. Third moult 10 days after hatching.
6. Emerging from their third moult as adult lice, the female and slightly similar male begin to reproduce.
7. Female lays first egg 1 or 2 days after mating.
8. Female can lay approximately 3 to 8 eggs per day for the next 16 days.
9. Having lived 32 to 35 days the louse dies.

So you can see it can up to a few weeks of daily work just to make sure that they do not return. To solve this never ending head lice life cycle you need to so some research on the topic as there is really no reason that they need to exist for more than a few weeks after you have done the work required to exterminate them.

Chronic Sinus Infection Treatment - Ways of Treating Chronic Sinus Infection

Inflammation of the sinus is known as sinus infection. But what is sinus? It is the cavities located in the nose. Sinus helps in pushing out the dry and mucous that is present inside the body. Therefore, when inflammation occurs in the sinus the dry and mucous is blocked inside the sinus. This, in medical parlance, is known as sinusitis. Those affected with sinusitis suffer from severe headaches. However, there is a vast difference between common cold and sinusitis. You should consult a doctor who will diagnose the ailment and prescribe medicines for you.

Chronic sinus infection treatment, which lasts about three to eight weeks, is bound to cause the patients with terrible pain and discomfort. For chronic sinus infection treatment patients must consult doctors as soon as possible to avoid severe pain. Also ensure that your doctor analysis your symptoms in detail, the cause for the infection and nature of cure that is most appropriate for you.

Other chronic sinus infection treatment:

Chronic sinus:

Those with chronic sinus suffer for about three to eight weeks more or less. What is chronic sinus infection treatment then, one may ask. But before going into the details of chronic sinus it is pertinent to know about the symptoms. Generally, the symptoms for chronic sinus are unbearable headaches, trouble in breathing and tiredness, fever, painful jaws and yellow discharge from the nose.

Patients could be prescribed by the doctors to use decongestants so that it could reduce the clogging of the nasal membrane. It is also recommended that inhaling steam through a vaporizer could bring in the much needed relief. Drinking warm fluids will also help a lot.

Sometimes chronic sinus infection treatment could also involve treatment for allergy if the infection is due to allergy. Both the treatments are done simultaneously.

Ah, but the medical profession is not the only one to blame. Most people are not aware that they are eating antibiotics practically every day. How? Well, they are in the meat products you eat including beef and poultry. They are also in animal products such as milk. These antibiotics are used as a precautionary measure for the animals who are housed in less than stellar conditions.

The Antibiotic Crisis - A Loss of Effectiveness

It is often suggested we live in a state of fear in modern society. If it isn't one thing, it is another. Global warming, super volcanoes, weapons of mass destruction and so on make one wonder how we've survived this long.

The biggest scare these days is Vancomycin resistant bacteria. Vancomycin is the antibiotic of last resort for pneumonia and the Staph infection superbug. Cases of bacteria not reacting to the drug are becoming more prevalent all the time. You've probably read about patients dying in the hospital. If this resistance becomes widespread, we have no immediate solutions and a plague of sorts could very well occur. How about that for a state of fear?!

Because of this general state of panic, we often fail to recognize big problems that aren't particularly sexy to the media. One of these problems is the developing crisis regarding the effectiveness of antibiotics. Simply put, they don't work as well as they used to.

Viruses and bacteria are becoming resistant to our most common antibiotics. Consider these facts. Of the roughly 100 antibiotics we have, every bacteria strain that causes us illness has developed at least one strain that is resistant to an antibiotic treatment. Nearly 20,000 people die in medical facilities every year from antibiotic resistant bacteria. When it comes to blood poising and pneumonia caused by Staphylococcus aureus, we are down to our last effective antibiotic - Vancomycin.

Okay, is there a reason why we are seeing antibiotic resistant strains well before one would expect them? Yes. The problem has to do with our use of antibiotics. Simply put, we treat them as a wonder drug that is good for anything. This is true for both the medical profession and society in general.

So, how did we get to this point? Is it just the natural order of things? Well, yes and no. Over time, it is true that bacteria will slowly develop resistances to the drugs used to treat them. The key to that statement, however, is "over time." While we would inevitably expect to have problems, we are having them far too early.

Vitamins and supplements are everywhere on the web. It seems that everyone has some to sell. Regardless of what many wellness companies will tell you, you may not need all the vitamins and supplements that they offer. Look for the ones that specifically meet your own individual needs.

For pain and fever, make sure you have plenty of medicine ready at home. You never know when you or a loved one will have aches or pains. Acetaminophen or ibuprophen are good choices. For a particularly strong pain, you might want to have heat wraps available.

Buying medicine and supplements online is a tricky business. You have to be sure you are dealing with a reputable company. Perhaps, that is the most important thing to learn about before you buy from an Internet store.

There is a vast array of medicine and supplement products being sold on the Internet now. The variety can be dizzying. To find the items you need, break them down into five main categories: allergy relief, vitamins and supplements, digestive health products, pain and fever reducers, and topical medications.

You can even get topical medicine online. Anti-fungal creams are great for athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Antibacterial ointments work for all kinds of cuts, scrapes, and sores. Look for packages that have an extra tube so that you can carry one in your car or purse.

Allergy relief products are essential for many people when the air quality is poor. You might need them if you are sensitive to pet dander and you have to be around someone's animal. Virtually everywhere you go, there are dust mites, and so if you have that allergy, you will need allergy relief medicine to help you regularly.

Digestive health problems are difficult to live with, even occasionally. It helps to have medicine on hand so that you will be ready when you need it. There are products to stop intestinal or stomach gas. Other medicine stops diarrhea. Look for heartburn relief products for your medicine cabinet.

You will want a multivitamin. If you are pregnant you will want prenatal vitamins, and if you are at risk for eye diseases, you will want ocular vitamins. Other supplements depend on the conditions you have as well. Not everyone needs a calcium supplement or a cranberry pill, but you might. Find the supplements that help your own problems.

You can find name brand antihistamines and other allergy relief medicine online at very reasonable prices. If you look for the lesser known brands, you will see an even bigger savings. Be sure to read all the warnings to make sure it is safe to take these medicines.

Several cells only seen microscopically play a role in digestive symptoms

Eosinophils and mast cells release chemicals that Treatment Methods For Acute Sinusitis the bowel, increase permeability (cause leaky gut), increase contractions of the gut, increase intestinal secretions and heighten pain. Both cells are related to allergies including food allergies. It is therefore not difficult to conceive of a link to adverse food reactions in the development of intestinal irritation.

Thousands of people are undergoing endoscopic exams daily without having tissue samples obtained. Sadly, though their exams may visually appear normal, under the microscope there are often microscopic findings that Treatment of Acute Sinusitis the symptoms that will respond to directed therapy. The gut is lined with superficial cells that contain a few immune cells that release chemical mediators that attract other cells to the area and fight off foreign invaders.

Jakarte S et al. "Mastocytic enterocolitis. "Increased mucosal mast cells in chronic intractable diarrhea." Arch Pathol Lab Med. 2006; 130:362-367.

In the stomach and small intestine more than 10 eosinophils per high power field defines eosinophilic gastroenteritis. In the small intestine and colon more than 20 mast cells per high power field found in association with otherwise unexplained diarrhea is now termed mastocytic enterocolitis. This newly recognized and described entity is previously unrecognized cause of diarrhea in some patients diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome who may have been told they have a normal colon exam though no biopsies were done. Similarly, more than 20 lymphocytes per 100 epithelial cells in the colon are found in lymphocytic colitis, another form of microscopic inflammation of the intestine resulting in diarrhea that may be inappropriately diagnosed as IBS.

Most digestive symptoms should be evaluated by Blood Pressure Headache May Be Sinus examination and blood tests

In the colon, the presence of eosinophils is considered one of the earliest findings of chronic inflammatory bowel disease. In the right colon more than 20 eosinophils per high power field and in the left colon greater than 20 per high power field is considered abnormal and suggests eosinophilic colitis, chronic inflammatory bowel disease or a parasitic infection.

Lymphocytes, eosinophils and mast cells are the immune cells that are normally present in small numbers in the surface cells of the gastrointestinal tract. A few lymphocytes are present in the tips of the surface cells that are a type of epithelial cell. These lymphocytes act as the body's scouts. They survey the barrier of the gut to the inside of the body, looking for signs of potential invading infectious agents. Once an attack is perceived, they signal reinforcements to join them on the front lines.

Liacouras CA. "Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders." Practical Gastroenterology March 2007. 53-67.

The important point to be aware of if you have gastrointestinal symptoms and are undergoing or have undergone an endoscopic examination is that a normal appearing intestinal lining does not exclude the presence of damage or irritation sufficient to cause symptoms of pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea nor exclude impaired digestion and absorption. Blood tests exist that can help screen for celiac disease, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis but biopsies of intestinal lining is usually required for definitive diagnosis.

Allergy cells release chemicals causing pain, diarrhea, and sometimes constipation

Eosinophils and mast cells are types of immune cells involved in allergy reactions in the body. They are less Blood Pressure Headache May Be Sinus present in the gastrointestinal lining except when there are parasites, food allergies, or chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders are less common and a newly recognized condition, mastocytic enterocolitis, is diagnosed when excess mast cells are present in the small bowel and colon. However, mast cells may be difficult to see on biopsies without a special stain for tryptase, an enzyme present in mast cells that are immunologically activated.

Allergic esophagus condition may mimic reflux but is due to food and eosinophils

Normal appearing gut lining may not be normal, make sure you get biopsies

Only through obtaining tissue samples that are examined under the microscope can abnormal types and number of inflammatory cells be identified. It is through biopsies of normal appearing intestinal lining that the correct diagnosis of various microscopic forms of gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases is confirmed. So, if you are preparing to undergo an endoscopic exam, I encourage you to insist that your doctor perform biopsies even they believe your exam looks normal. Based on the information I have reviewed above, a normal exam should be tip off that one of these microscopic conditions might be to blame for your symptoms.

Kirsch R et al. "Activated mucosal mast cells differentiate eosinophilic (allergic) esophagitis from gastroesophageal reflux disease." Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition 2007; 44: 20-26.

The esophagus normally contains no eosinophils. The two exceptions gastroesophageal acid reflux in which small numbers, up to 6-7 usually and no more than 10-12 per high power field (40X magnification) are found in the lower esophagus only not in the mid or upper esophagus. Allergic eosinophilic esophagitis is diagnosed when 15 or more eosinophils per high power field are found in more than two fields or more than 20 to 24 per high power field in one field are seen or lesser numbers are present in the upper esophagus. Mast cells that are activated have also been found associated with allergic eosinophilic esophagitis and their presence supports allergic esophagitis over reflux as the cause of the increase eosinophils though it is believed some people have both conditions coexisting.
